Why Himalayan Salt?
Humans have been using salt to flavour and preserve foods for thousands of years.
Salt is a mineral consisting of the compound sodium chloride and various minerals and trace elements, identical to our body. It is produced through an extraction process from the underground salt mines.
Before common table salt reaches your local grocery store, it undergoes a refining process to remove impurities and any other minerals except for sodium chloride. Anticaking agents are added to prevent the formation of lumps and for easier packaging, transport, and consumption.
It is necessary to have mineralized salt in your diet as it plays vital roles in certain bodily functions including fluid balance, nerve conduction, brain function and muscle contraction. Many health professionals claim that too much sodium can lead to high blood pressure and heart disease. Because of the potential dangers of consuming too much table salt, many people have turned to using the unpolluted, unrefined and mineral rich Himalayan crystal salt as a healthier alternative.
Himalayan crystal salt contains up to 84 trace minerals and elements that are found in the human body including sodium chloride, calcium, potassium and magnesium. These minerals and trace elements are removed from common table salt due to the refining process.
Himalayan crystal salt is made from rock crystals of salt that have been mined from the Salt Range, approximately 200 km from the foot of the Himalayan Mountain chain in Pakistan. It gets its famous colour from trace minerals in the salt, like iron, magnesium, potassium, calcium and many more.

In our facility, we work, without fail, only with the Himalayan Crystal Salt. There is no contamination possible with other substances like gluten.
Since Spring 2003, I received a lot of phone calls with a lot of questions. Himalayan crystal salt was new at that time and is still new to many people. Confusion takes a large part into the topic SALT as well.
Please note: the suggestions do NOT substitute a visit to your physician or naturopathic doctor.
Q: What can we do to get clarity in our kitchen and keep sane?
A: My suggestion is, as always, listen to your body and do what your gut tells you to do. Besides listening to your instinct, my other suggestion is: READ, READ, READ books from several authors and build your own opinion with using common sense.
Q: How does Himalayan crystal salt defer from the other salts?
A: The refined common table salt has all the minerals processed out but sodium and chloride, some sea salt is “cleaned”, some not. If we recall all the catastrophes such as the last one in Gulf of Mexico, which show reality, then we know that it can’t be as pure as the Himalayan crystal salt. The Himalayan crystal salt is deep within the earth and therefore unpolluted. As proven by many high qualified doctors the body needs at least Sodium. Potassium, Calcium and Magnesium to function properly.
Q: Can you send me the break down of the 84 minerals and trace elements?
A: That is not possible; some of the minerals and trace elements are in such a small amount that they can’t be detected in a laboratory. It is assumed that all elements on earth exist in the crystal salt – except for the six types of inert gas. However, the most important ones, along with its function, are listed in Dr. J. Weihofen’s book “The Essence of the Primeval Sea – Himalayan Crystal Salt – Origin, active principles and treatments”, which can be purchased from Heartfeltliving®.
Q: What is the core benefit of the Himalayan crystal salt?
A: It is a fact that the body needs mineralized salt so that the osmosis can work properly. A pure and mineralized salt helps the body to get into balance. Only a balanced body is a healthy body.
Q: How easy is the Himalayan crystal salt to use?
A: As easy as all the other salt we have on the market. Because of its purity the taste is more pleasant and we need up to 50% LESS than with common table or sea salt. Himalayan crystal salt is also a great product for a relaxing bath and/or skin problems.
Q: How can I purchase it?
A: Just go to your health food store and ask for the Himalayan crystal salt from Heartfeltliving®. Give our info to the owner or purchaser and ask them to call us. You can also call us direct and we will guide you to a store near you carrying our Himalayan crystal salt. More and more practitioners (massage therapists, yoga studios, naturopathic clinics etc.) carry the Himalayan crystal salt as well.
Q: If the store doesn’t have your Himalayan crystal salt, how long does it take to get it?
A: The first step is always to ask the store to bring it in. A “special order” takes a couple of days. If the store is not willing to do so (most still believe that the customer is the King and they value your input) we can send it out to you within 48 hours.
Q: How many of the Himalayan crystal salt rocks should I put into my glass jar to make the “sole” ?
A: Fill the glass jar with as many rocks as you can put in. Pour water over it and let it stand at least for 8 hours or overnight. You won’t lose money since the rocks dissolve to the point of the water’s saturation and then they stop dissolving. That is around 26%. Use the”sole” and as soon as the water goes down to the rocks, refill the glass jar with water. The rocks will start to dissolve again until the water reaches the saturation point. You will notice how the rocks get smaller and smaller. As soon as most of the rocks are very small, you add more rocks before re-filling the glass jar with water.
Q: Can I start with one tea spoon of the “sole” right away, instead of the suggested drop by drop?
A: We strongly recommend starting gradually with the “sole” like you would do with homeopathic medicine. The body has to be re-introduced to the water-salt solution again. Did you know that 1% of a water-salt solution is the same liquid than the amniotic fluid and our blood?
Q: Can I give my children “sole” as well?
A: Give your children just a couple of drops into a glass of water and make sure they drink enough water throughout the day. (Water is important and not just juice or pop). In the book “Brain Gym” by Paul E. Dennison and Gail Dennison, it states that the body recognizes only water as liquid. The body processes anything other than water as food. They also recommend drinking water at room temperature…
Q: Do I have to put my glass with “sole” into the fridge?
A: Not necessary. In a concentration of around 26% nothing can survive and therefore you can keep your brine on the counter. (Helps not to forget to take it every morning) The”sole” stays sterile.
Q: Can I make up the “sole” with fine grind Himalayan crystal salt or coarse salt?
A: The idea of the “sole” is to take in minerals as well as energy. The bigger the rocks the more energy is still kept in them. It is also easier to follow with the visibility of the rocks to be sure the water has the concentration of around 26%.
Q: What are those reddish, brownish sediments at the bottom of the glass jar?
A: Since the Himalayan crystal salt is a 100% natural product without any processing it is subject to changes in concentration of its elements within its crystalline structure. The sediments are minerals not included in the geometric matrix of the salt crystal. They are harmless. After a few months I usually rinse my glass jar out, keep the rocks and fill it up with water again. I do this just because of the “looks”.
Q: I put a few rocks into my bath tub. Is that o.k.?
A: For the rocks to dissolve you need a few hours. To have a sole bath you would have to start with it in the morning to have it ready in the evening. Using coarse salt for a nice relaxing bath makes more sense.
Q: Does LED bulb interfere with the lamp’s purpose?
A: For the lamp to be able to create negative ions, it has to be warm. LED bulbs don’t do the job since they don’t get warm.
Q: My doctor told me to get off salt entirely because of my high blood pressure. Can I use the Himalayan crystal salt anyway?
A: If you study “what is osmosis” you will learn that the body needs mineralized salt. Salt has many positive health effects on one’s body. Please read and inform yourself. There are also proven facts by high qualified doctors and researchers regarding salt and high blood pressure. The fact remains that the body needs Sodium, Potassium, Calcium and Magnesium period!
Dr. Brownstein’s blogs are a good source to learn more about the importance of salt for the body and therefore our health.
Q: I do a cleansing with fasting each year. Can I keep taking the “sole” in the morning?
A: It should not harm you but support the cleansing. As always, please listen to your body. If fasting and taking the “sole” doesn’t feel right at the same time than don’t do it. Since your body already goes through a cleansing with the “sole”, it may be too much with both together. Try it and do what feels good.
Q: Can I give my pet some salt into its food?
A: My answer is always the same; animals know instinctively what is good for them and therefore we just have to try it. If they don’t want something because it is not good for them, they won’t touch it. If it is good for them, they eat it. It is that simple! If we start to listen to our bodies as do animals, we would also know what is good and what is not good for us… I have two cats. They get 2 drops into their water bowl and one drop into their morning food.
Q: If I want to inhale with the “sole”, do I need to buy a special machine for that or the inhaler?
A: No, you fill a pot with water and brine (1% = 370 ml <1 ¾ cup of water> and 5 ml <1 teaspoon of brine> which can be easily multiplied to match the size of a pot). Boil the solution, take it off the cook top, place on the counter, bend over the steam and cover your head with a towel. Inhale through your mouths, exhale through your nose and vice versa; inhale through your nose and exhale through your mouths etc. Keep a box of Kleenexes near by…
